Mission Statement
Mission
The HamSCI Personal Space Weather Station (PSWS) Working Group builds, deploys, and operates the HamSCI PSWS network, a distributed array of affordable HF, VLF, and ground magnetometer instruments hosted largely by amateur radio volunteers. The group coordinates HamSCI’s instrument working groups, supports the volunteers who host stations, keeps the network’s data flowing to a public central database, and uses the observations to study how the ionosphere and geomagnetic field respond to space weather and to forcing from the atmosphere below.
Part of HamSCI
The working group operates under HamSCI (Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation), whose three goals it shares:
- Advance scientific research and understanding through amateur radio activities.
- Encourage the development of new technologies to support this research.
- Provide educational opportunities for the amateur community and the general public.
